Do I need a license to drive a motorhome or tow a towable?
All 50 states require only a standard driver’s license to operate an RV (drivable or towable) under 26,000lbs. Over that threshold, state requirements vary. However, only the largest Class A models are above the limit, and as long as you are legal to drive in your home state, wherever you travel will honor that status. Similarly, some states require a special license to tow larger sized fifth wheels. Check with your local motor vehicle department to get a better understanding of the laws in your home state.
What’s the difference between a 5th wheel and travel trailer?
Fifth wheels and travel trailers are both towable camping options. They look similar at first glance; however, fifth wheels tend to be larger and heavier than travel trailers. So, while they can provide more living space and bigger holding tanks, fifth wheels also require a special hitch and can only be towed by a pickup truck. Travel trailers can be towed by anything with a hitch as long as the vehicle can handle the weight of the trailer.
What is the best length vehicle for state parks and campgrounds?
Of course, this varies from park to park, but most will easily accommodate RVs in the 19–25-foot rage. 19-foot campers will fit in 98% of National Park sites, and typically they can handle between 25–30-foot models.
How will I get power without access to hookups?
Whether you’re at a campground without hookups, or boondocking in a parking lot, not having access to shore power doesn’t mean you have to be stuck in the dark. Generators or batteries are a common solution, although you’ll be limited by the life of the battery or the amount of gas in the generator. Is it costly to insure an RV?
No! RV Insurance is much more affordable than most people expect! In fact, covering your camper typically costs less than the cost of insuring a car. According to Bankrate.com, average RV insurance can cost as little as $250 a year for towables and $550 for motorhomes. However, specific costs vary depending on factors such as your insurance provider, driving record, the insured RV, etc, and our business managers are happy to help find the best rate for you.
Do campsites allow pets?
Good news for your canine or kitty campers, most campsites do allow small pets! However, some sites have breed restrictions when it comes to animals allowed, so it’s always a good idea to check before you arrive to ensure you don’t run into any issues.
